With the winter season upon us, winter weather watches are bound to arise. The primary goal of a weather event watch is to help keep residents safe during a winter storm. The National Weather Service has created a set list of criteria for when they issue a Winter Storm Watch.

The Division of Highways has deployed more than 200 truck operators and dumped over 12,000 tons of salt since December 11 as crews battle to clear roads after a powerful winter storm dropped up to 15 inches of snow across North Central West Virginia.

Heavy rains inundated the Gaza coastline, flooding tents, collapsing buildings and killing more than a dozen people, including an infant.

Extreme cold and snow clean-up from this weekend's winter storm has led several churches and community locations to close for the day.
